In Copenhagen, I learned of King Harald Bluetooth Gormsson who was King of Denmark

and Norway from c.958-986. He brought Christianity to Scandinavia. It is said that Harald

was converted by a cleric called ‘Poppa’ who asked Harald to prove his faith in Christ, by

carrying a ‘great weight of iron’ heated by a fire without being burned.

At the ‘Nationalmuseet’ (National Museum) I witnessed Harald’s use of rune stones which

gave rise to quite few intrigues in my story.

In the year 965, King Harald erected the large rune stone in Jelling.

On one side of the stone Christ can be seen. The image of Christ is the oldest example from Scandinavia.
